Larry & Danette Martin
Owners and caretakers, Larry and Danette have always loved the quiet peace of Martin’s Hide Away. After two decades Each have spent years enjoying the quiet calm of the woods and gurgling free flowing well. It is their hope that guests will connect with friends and family while soaking in the beauty of the varied landscape and wildlife. Larry’s love for the woods can find him cultivating the land to increase wildlife and encourage native plant growth. It is not unusual to see families of deer, turkeys, and fox skirting the pond as they forage for food around the grounds.
Why do you want to open the pond to guests?
Danette: To share the beautiful place we have been blessed to own. To give guests a place to soak in the beauty and take time to slow down.
Larry: We’ve enjoyed it so much. Making memories with family and friends and want other people to experience it.
What is your favorite thing about the pond?
Danette: Feeling God’s presences when I take quiet times back there. When I’m there with a group, the feeling of slowing down and enjoying time together.
Larry:A neat area that has a lot of different types of nature: pond, creek, swamp. It isn’t just a flat piece of land.
If your guests only experienced 1 thing back at the pond, what would you want to make sure they experience?
Danette & Larry: Connecting with God and the people that are important to them.

Harold & Verla Jean Martin
In 1976, Harold and Verla Jean Martin purchased a heavily wooded property. The 30-acres hosted a two-bedroom cabin built from trees from the woods, as well as a small pond. Wanting to create a space for their busy family to come together and enjoy, Harold dug out the pond into it’s current horseshoe shape and cleared space for three more cabins to be built. Known as “The Pond”, the property soon became a gathering place for five generations of Harold and Verla’s family. Over the years, friends of the family have joined the fun; sharing food and creating memories. It is Harold and Verla’s dream of a retreat for family and friends that is felt the moment guests arrive.
